While this market, particularly that of small pots, still underdeveloped in Morocco seemed to stagnate, a new operator could make a difference.
The baby cereals were invented by Dr. Nestle in person in 1867 to fight against malnutrition. Since then, halal baby food remained at the heart of the business of Nestl�. In the 30s, flours "C�r�lac" were among the first brands launched in Morocco. The group now claims 90% market share (excluding infant formula). Much of its activity in this segment is based on the 3 varieties of cereal, manufactured at the plant of El Jadida, and anecdotally (2%) of 3 references to jars imported.
Another specialist in child nutrition, Danone Group, present in Morocco for over 30 years, is now represented by Danone Baby Nutrition (via the Liaison Office Morocco Nutricia). This new group entity includes Bl�dina brands Nutricia and Milupa, the latter two belonging to the Dutch group Numico by Danone bought in late 2007. The group's products are distinguished by the many references offered: 12 and 22 grain Bl�dine Bl�dina in small pots. Nutricia Morocco claims 10% market share of 90% flour and pots.
