authentic is a modern (and free) tool for checksum verification. featuring a convenient gui and a drag and drop interface, it is both powerful and user-friendly, quickly letting you verify the integrity of files. being unhappy with other hash-value calculators, i’ve tried to implement everything that’s missing from other checksum tools. now, it’s the only tool i use to calculate hash-values and verify the integrity of my files.

the current version (1.0.1) supports 15 different hashing algorithms. you can validate files with: md5, sha1, adler-32, blake2b, blake2s, crc32, ripemd-160, sha-224, sha-256, sha-384, sha-512, sha3-224, sha3-256, sha3-384 and sha3-512.

in this day and age, validating the authenticity of your downloads is more important than ever. the best way of doing that is with a checksum that is publicly posted by the publisher or author. this is the only way to be certain that the file you downloaded is what it purports to be. whether it’s state-actors or common hackers, falsifying files in transit is not as hard as it might sound!

if you need to calculate hashes for an algorithm which is not included, please contact me and i’ll try to include it in future versions.

attention: v1.0.1. contains a crucial bug-fix which prevented the previous version from working!
